SOUTH ASIA RISK REVIEW - 2020

2019 for South Asia has been one of the more eventful years in the past decade. 2019 witnessed the first trans Line of Control air attacks between India and Pakistan after almost five decades, one of the worst terrorist attacks in about a decade in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh is hailed by experts as one of the most advanced, criminally minded and crafty terrorist organization in the sub-continent. The Taliban revived itself as a major player in Afghanistan for the first time since their removal from power in 2001. On the political front, India saw major political and constitutional reforms, while Sri Lanka and Maldives have seen new governments. Pakistan continues to grapple with uniformed democracy in new ways. Nepal"s growing closeness with China, seen alongside China"s increasing role in Sri Lanka and Pakistan too has India

worried.
